Independent component sourcing

Electronic components, sourced and vetted for you

A shortage part holding up a build, a component going end-of-life, or a BOM that costs too much. I've worked inside OEMs and contract electronics manufacturers, and I find the parts and the suppliers you can trust, so your engineers and buyers can get back to their day jobs.

Sound familiar?

The sourcing problems that stop production lines and delay launches.

"One part is on a 40-week lead time and the whole build is waiting for it."
"Our main IC has gone end-of-life and nobody has a plan."
"Distributors won't look at us for the quantities we need."
"We found stock on a broker site but we don't know if we can trust it."
"Our BOM cost has crept up and we haven't reviewed it in years."
"Our buyer spends all week chasing parts instead of planning."

How I help

Component sourcing isn't just about finding stock. It's about finding the right stock, from a source you can trust, at a sensible price, without derailing your engineering team. Having worked across OEMs and contract electronics manufacturers, from BOMs and supplier management through to Design for Manufacture, I understand both the purchasing side and the engineering side of the problem.

I work as your independent sourcing agent. I do the searching, checking and negotiating, and you buy directly from the supplier. You get their paperwork and traceability, with no hidden mark-up.

Shortage and hard-to-find parts

Searching authorised distribution first, then vetted independent sources, to get stalled builds moving again.

End-of-life and obsolescence

Securing remaining stock, planning last-time buys, and finding alternatives your engineers can approve.

BOM review and cost-down

Reviewing your bill of materials for single-source risks, long lead times and cheaper equivalent parts.

Supplier vetting

Checking traceability, certificates of conformance and track record before you commit, to keep counterfeit risk down.

PCBA and contract manufacturer sourcing

Finding and comparing contract electronics manufacturers in the UK and offshore, with quotes you can compare like for like.

Lead time and supply planning

Planning buys around real lead times so shortages are spotted months ahead, not on the day of the build.

Experience on both sides of the supply chain

Electronics product start-up

From component sourcing to customer delivery

For a fast-growing business making NFC-enabled products, I mapped the full supply chain from component sourcing through to customer fulfilment, introduced reorder processes to stop stockouts, and set up supplier scorecards and lead time tracking to make purchasing reliable.

Three months from audit to go-live, with full stock visibility.

"Nick has a deep understanding of the full sales-to-supply 360 view, which we found unique compared to other consultants. He engaged with our customers' pain points and worked on solutions that actually worked for them."

Component sourcing FAQs

Do you sell components or hold stock?
No. I act as your independent sourcing agent. I find and vet suppliers, and you buy directly from them, so you get the supplier's paperwork and traceability and there is no hidden mark-up. You pay a fee quoted and agreed before any work starts.
How do you reduce the risk of counterfeit parts?
Authorised and franchised distribution is always checked first. Where independent sources are needed, I look for traceability back to the original manufacturer, certificates of conformance and suppliers with a track record, and I'll tell you plainly when a source isn't worth the risk.
Can you help when a part goes end-of-life?
Yes. That can mean securing remaining stock, planning a last-time buy, or finding and assessing alternative parts with your engineering team so the design can move on.
Do you work with small quantities?
Yes. Many requests are for small or awkward quantities that distributors don't prioritise, from prototype builds through to production shortfalls.

Stuck on a part?

Send me the part numbers, quantities and when you need them. I'll come back with an honest view of what's possible and a free, no-obligation quote to find them.
